Louis Stern Fine Arts is pleased to present Cordillera Mexicana, an exhibition of works by Alfredo Ramos Martínez (1871-1946) that highlights the artist’s profound connection to his homeland. From his earliest days, Ramos Martínez turned to nature for the inspiration that fueled a lengthy and fruitful career as an educator and artist. His earliest teacher, he would later recall, was the orange tree that grew on the patio of his childhood home in Monterrey. Its tranquil beauty sparked the young artist’s passion for reverently capturing the landscapes and people of Mexico.

When he moved to the United States in 1929 to seek medical care for his ailing infant daughter, Ramos Martínez carried memories of his beloved native country even as he established a vibrant relationship with his new home of Los Angeles. He fondly painted the majestic Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range of his childhood in the shadow of LA’s Santa Monica mountains, both links in the chain of ranges that form the vast western backbone of the Americas. Just as this American Cordillera transcends time, culture and borders, Ramos Martínez maintained his vital connection to his homeland through works that celebrated the rich history and natural wonders of Mexico.

It’s more of a sensation than a memory. It’s the glimpse of a pattern. A sense of movement. A scene experienced while traveling. It’s a dip into the psyche.

This is Fragments, a new collaboration between Los Angeles–based interior designer Ryan Saghian and Montreal-based Giada Studio, makers of bespoke, handcrafted rugs made in India.

In a way, this collaboration feels predestined. Giada is rooted in four generations of artisanal rug-making. Saghian is known for his signature luxe, unapologetically sexy design work. And as a Persian American designer, he often draws upon his heritage for inspiration.

“My culture is ‘my eye,’” he explains. “It’s in my love of craftsmanship and storytelling, and the way I layer. I love ceremony. It’s in how I source. It’s a part of how I design, and it’s reflected in this collection: there’s poetry in it and there’s monumentality.”

The Fragments collection features iconic motifs that hold deep personal symbolism for Saghian. Each design explores a fragment of an idea—a moment, a memory, a symbol, a landscape—through an exceptional hand-knotted rug.

“Individually, these designs tell their own story; together, they create a portrait of the way I see the world,” says Saghian.

“Ryan was an instinctive choice. He has a distinct point of view. It is bold, unapologetic, and entirely his own,” says Julien Hakoun, co-owner of Giada Studio. “Beyond the work, I’ve always admired his honesty and directness; we connected immediately. Bringing his vision into rugs for the first time felt less like a collaboration we had to create and more like one that was simply meant to happen.”

Paragon is “inspired by the whimsical geometry and illusionism found in 1970s Italian modern art and architecture,” says Saghian. With layered borders and repeating forms, it feels both playful and refined.

Perception is a striking statement piece featuring an oversized eye, a symbol of intuition, observation, and perspective. The composition blurs the line between this classic symbol—a protective presence, a spiritual mirror—and the dynamic imagery of contemporary art.

Duality and Continuum are both “fully inspired by abstract art,” says Saghian. “They are very feminine and sensual, like the curves of the ocean or of the female body.” Saghian’s love of high contrast is on full display here.

Serpentis calls to mind the serpent’s enduring place in the world of fine jewelry, where snakes symbolize elegance and power.

“Persian rugs always have a border and a center medallion,” explains Saghian. “With this design, I instead thought, ‘What if there isn’t a center, and you focus on the border?’ I let my mind go wild.”

Here, the snakes become a chic symbol of eternal renewal.

Verdure calls to mind a verdant landscape painting.

“I love ombré and I love green,” says Saghian. “No matter which hue of green, it’s so sophisticated. I originally designed this pattern as a stair runner in my showroom, and everyone loved it so much, I developed it as a room rug.”

Gambit features the confident, bold graphics of a chessboard. With a dramatic tension between light and dark, it balances order and spontaneity.

Each design can be made to exact specifications, with custom materials, colors, and dimensions.

“These are rugs that don’t play in the background,” says Saghian. “They aren’t in the room; they make the room.”

The public is invited to experience the new Fragments collection during an open house preview from 3–5:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 at Eichholtz Los Angeles, 464 N. Robertson Blvd. in West Hollywood.

Jarrow & Goodman presents Looking Good, a solo exhibition by Norton Wright. Bringing together works from across Wright’s remarkable practice, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience his paintings together—where humor sits beside unease, and the theatrical meets the deeply personal. On view from September 11 through October 2.

brings together a broader community for a cocktail reception and benefit auction celebrating design, architecture, and the next chapter of the Fitzpatrick-Leland House.

The exhibition features photographs such as Ed Ruscha photographed by Jim McHugh in his studio in 1984 with a Polaroid T59, and again 42 years later with a Leica Q3 43.
