“L.A. Story” Group Exhibition at Hauser & Wirth West Hollywood
Inspired by the 1991 film L.A. Story, Hauser & Wirth West Hollywood presents a group exhibition celebrating the unique charm of Los Angeles. Co-organized by curators Ingrid Schaffner and Mike Davis, and in dialogue with the film’s writer and star Steve Martin, this exhibition features works by artists who depict the city’s playful and surreal spirit.
Opening with iconic depictions of Californian swimming pools by artists like David Hockney and Calida Rawles, the exhibition explores the everyday blend of the banal and the enchanted that defines L.A. From Florian Maier-Aichen’s dreamy Malibu coast to Mark Bradford’s abstract map of central L.A., the artwork captures the city’s multifaceted nature. Other artists include Ed Ruscha, Vija Celmins, and a new generation like Kevin Appel and Henry Taylor, continuing L.A.’s story as a contemporary art epicenter.
Tierra del Sol Gallery presents Four Roots, an exhibition celebrating the magical works of Julia Hagen-Brenner, Marcella Kroll, Katie Mendoza and Cathy Ward. This collaboration between Tierra Studio artists and community-based disabled artists highlights inclusive visual language grounded in the divine feminine.
